More and more shops are switching to self-scanning. Not just supermarket chains, but also home improvement shops such as IKEA, for example. Which is not so surprising. Self-scanning offers many benefits for both customers and businesses. Especially when the business decides to use DCR Europe’s self-scanning trolley.
For the customer: faster shopping
Unlike ‘ordinary’ shopping trolleys, self-scanning trolleys have no basket. The self-scanning trolley is actually a frame on wheels on which the customer can place three or four folding crates. There is also a holder for the scanner. The crates can be purchased at the shop for a small fee. So customers take the folding crates with them.
How do customers do their shopping? As they enter the shop, they press a button. A scanner is then activated. The customers scan the shopping items and place them in the crates. In some shops, customers can pay electronically at “payment columns”. In other shops, customers pass the scanner to a cashier. After payment, the customer takes the self-scanning trolley to the car park. The crates are loaded into the boot of the car in a single movement, the customer then parks the self-scanning trolley in the storage facility and the shopping is done. It could hardly be faster.
For the shop: lower costs
Self-scanning reduces costs for the shop. Shopping items are no longer scanned at the checkout. That means that cashiers need less time to process payments and customers can be helped faster. The result: the shop needs fewer checkout personnel for the same number of customers. The same applies to checkout fittings and equipment: fewer checkouts are required and not every checkout needs a conveyor belt. The maintenance costs for the trolleys are also lower because components such as baskets, hooks and child seats are no longer needed. Self-scanning therefore ultimately leads to cost savings for the shop.
More information about self-scanning
Customers and shops will need some time to become accustomed to self-scanning, but both parties will eventually view it very positively. Would you like to know more? Our account manager would be happy to come by for a visit and tell you all about it.
